Microneedling

How does Microneedling work?

A device with single-use, sterile micro-needles is used to rapidly puncture the skin in a vertical motion causing micro-lesions. This promotes healing process of the skin, resulting in cell turnover, increased collagen, and elastin production.

What are the benefits of Microneedling?

  • Tightens, lifts, and rejuvenates the skin

  • Good for fine lines & wrinkles (frown lines, crow’s feet, smoker’s lines, worry lines, etc.)

  • Promotes even skin tone/texture (acne or surgical scars, stretch marks, sun spots, etc.)

  • Helps with minimizing pores

  • Encourages serum topical absorption by 2000% (Great time to use those serums you splurged on for your skin!)

Am I a good candidate for Microneedling?

Microneedling can be a good treatment for those who are seeking to improve their skin tone/texture overall, but there are certain times when it is better to wait to receive the treatment.

It is best to avoid microneedling when any of the following apply:

  • Recently exposed to sun for a long period of time or tanning bed / Planning on being in the sun or tanning bed several days following treatment

  • Moderate to severe chronic skin diseases (eczema, psoriasis, etc.)

  • Patients on chemo/radiotherapy

  • Local infections, active acne

  • Keloid skin type

  • Patients on anticoagulant therapy/blood thinners, blood dyscrasias

  • Pregnant

How long is each session?

The first session may be anywhere from 75 - 90 minutes, whereas follow up sessions will take about 60 minutes.

When will I be able to see results?

While results can usually be seen after the first treatment, better and more visible results can be seen with a series of treatments spaced out at regular intervals. The effects of each following microneedling treatment build up on one another to see continuous and long lasting benefits.

What to expect during treatment:

  • Face or the area to be treated will be cleansed to take off product that may be left on the skin before starting the treatment.

  • A numbing cream is then applied to the skin and left on for 15-20 minutes.

  • Microneedling will be done using a serum fit for the concern. (Microneedling opens up micro-channels that allow for better serum topical absorption by up to 2000%)

  • A skin soothing mask will be applied once microneedling is done since there may be some redness and swelling afterwards.

  • The treatment is finished with the application of a vegan apple stem cell serum which promotes a more youthful and even skin tone. SPF will be applied to protect your skin from the sun.

  • Aftercare will be explained, and can also be found below.

How do I prepare for treatment?

  • Prolonged sun exposure, including exposure to tanning beds, may cause skin irritation during your treatment. Hence, it is strongly advised to avoid prolonged sun exposure/tanning bed exposure several days before and after treatment.

  • The use of certain skincare products, particularly retinoids and acid-based products (azelaic acid, glycolic acid, salicylic acid), will need to be stopped temporarily.

  • It is advised to have a clean face with only moisturizer on, and no makeup before microneedling.

  • Avoid sweat inducing activities before and after treatment.

  • For those who have sensitivities to certain sunscreens, bringing your own sunscreen or a hat is recommended.

What to expect after treatment:

  • Immediately after treatment there will be redness & inflammation.

  • For the first day or two the face may feel hot due to the healing process.

  • First few days some may experience dryness & flakiness. It is advised to apply hydrating non-comedogenic serum during this time.

Aftercare

  • Avoid sun the day of treatment.

  • No swimming in pool/beach.

  • No exercise or sweat inducing activities for 24 hours to avoid sweating and clogging pores.

  • No makeup or harsh skin products.

  • No facial oils the day of treatment. Use hyaluronic acid instead when you feel dry and before bed.

  • There may be redness so aloe vera or clean aloe vera products may be applied to reduce the redness and swelling.

  • Be sure to have clean hands before touching treated areas when applying any topicals.

  • Do not apply vitamin C after microneedling.

  • Skincare products have a much higher absorption rate the week after microneedling. (**Tip: use of those splurged skincare products are encouraged to be used at its full potential)
